Abstract
Purpose: Although plastic surgery has become increasingly common, the side effects can still be very serious. Therefore, this study will take adult women with high concern about plastic surgery as the object, examine the factors related to appearance, assess their appearance satisfaction, and investigate their beliefs and experiences with plastic surgery, so as to better understand patient satisfaction and side effects brought by plastic surgery.

Methods: Data were collected from Oct. 16, 2019 to Oct. 31, 2019. Frequency and percentage values were assessed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software program along with the chi-square test.

Results: The use of makeup to solve appearance concerns was found to be most common among women, followed by the use of plastic surgery. Women who think that nose plastic surgery has the greatest impact on appearance change were 21.3%. Women in their 20s who undergo cosmetic surgery think that eye plastic surgery and facial contour surgery have a greater impact on appearance change compared with other women, while women in their 30s think that managing body shape has a greater impact on appearance change. Women in their 40s think lip surgery has a big impact on their appearance and women in their 20s have more cosmetic surgery than other women.

Conclusion: The most common way to deal with the pressure of appearance is to apply makeup, followed by plastic surgery in hospitals in China. Age is a significant factor that determines beliefs about cosmetic surgery and women of different ages have different requirements for cosmetic surgery. Most women have experienced side effects after plastic surgery, and the older they are, the more they have undergone cosmetic surgery, and the more they have experienced side effects post-surgery.
